For the October Ride I say we set up a course for the afternoon portion of the ride pick 2 teams or more and do a relay race type race? What do you think?

I talk to a guy that rode many of the state forest. He said Pittsfield state park is all around best place to ride.

In the September thread # 5 and 1101 agreed 10/18 would be best date for the October ride.

This date will also work for me

I don't care where we go.  10/18 sounds good.  The course idea sounds like fun.

10/18 is good for me.  I'm not sure about a "race".  if we find a moto track then I'm all for it but out on the trail over miles of a loop it just sounds like an injury waiting to happen to me.  remember who we ride with...  they just can't help themselves.

so have I got this right, we are planning on Greylock SF for the Oct ride and Beartown for the Nov ride?  Does anyone want to do Pisgagh SF in NH instead of Greylock?  It will require a NH reg which is $64 for bike non-resident.  #10, #1101 and myself had a great ride here 2 years ago.  there is also Clough SF in NH which is another great place to ride.  both of these SF are less than 1 hour away from our usual riding area.

missing brake levers, shift levers, I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.  Upon the Pres' suggestion of my hard starting issue, I changed my spark plug and it fired up 1st kick.  the old plug was a deep rust color on the "arm" electrode and ceramic base with a touch of white on the tip of the center electrode and some black goo at the base of the ceramic and on the threads.  does anyone have input to what this reading means?   it also looked like my gap had become too wide.  it looks safe to me but I wouldn't mind seeing more beige and less goo.  maybe with the cooler temps I will leave the same main jet and see if it cleans up a bit.

is the darkness coming too quick for evening rides now or does someone want to set a night for next week.  I am out for Wednesdays in Oct (wife working).  #23 and I are planning on a quick rip on Saturday after 1pm.  We were thinking about doing some exploration from the powerlines that run behind his house.

let's get this discussion in here from email:

We did Oct Mtn the first year we did this.  I’d be happy to go back since it’s been 3-4 years or so.  Although I feel compelled to wax poetic at this point with apologies to the snow members since they just heard this from me because we are having the same discussion right now for our winter trip.

One of the best parts of these all day weekday trips was to ride new turf and explore somewhere we have never been before.  My catch phrase for this is “a new vista around every corner”.  They are riding areas we cannot reach on a regular ride and we use maps (and now GPS) to choose our loops and make our way.  I just want to put in that I enjoy that aspect of these days very much and I don’t want to go away from that in the future.  Learning new riding areas on our bikes allows us to expand our knowledge of NE riding as a club and where we can/like to go in the future.

#88 did you and Rant Rant ride ATV’s when we did Oct Mtn?  (pretty sure #77 was on his WR400)  For the record I do not have a current reg in MA but ride with an expired one.  We made slow progress that day.  I bet with this crew we could get a lot more mileage behind us.  Is this the time #2 slimed his tire and somehow found me out in the green quaqmire (lost as usual)?  I was taking the “long way” back to the trucks.  There was also a pretty big pit to play in if I remember correctly.  Good amount of rocks here but good trails.

Ps> #86 sure did make a great sales pitch for the dual-sport with the ride report that was the start of this string.  Sounds like awesome fun.
