Quick ride report for the Sunday Sept 4th ride. I arrived at the yellow gate about 10minutes of 8am to see there were 2 porta potties left there from the Junior Enduro on Saturday. I put one to good use before the others arrived. I warmed up and did a few practice laps around part of what turned out to be a sweet 3 mile loop. It was well worn and the berms were nice and loamy. About 8:20 Scott, John, and Darin (his first ride on his first dirtbike) arrived, unloaded, suited up and were about to take off when Darins new Yamaha tipped over and flooded out. After 10 minutes and just about everyone giving a stab at wearing out their right leg, it finally started. Not before having to go through the infamous 4 stroke clean out procedure (hold kill switch, hold compression lever, hold throttle open and kick 12 times). After that it started first kick. So we headed off and found our way around the 3 mile loop stopping on only a few occasions to let Darin catch up. By the way we were completely impressed with Darin's riding ablilty. I wasn't half as good as he was when I took my first ride..nice job! After the first loop we decided to do a few laps. Scott took the lead and set a blistering pace (NICE). I was keeping him honest for the first 2 laps and by lap 3 I started getting fatigued and knew I wouldn't make another lap without hitting something so when he started lap 4 I had to stop for a break. After lap 4 every one stopped and commented about how cool the loop was. We did some more riding and headed back to the truck for a few minute rest. A few guys showed up with some 4 wheelers and an amateur motocrosser (whom we had seen last week when the guys were cutting the enduro trail). After the break we started running the loop in reverse, or what we thought was in reverse. It turns out we were running it backwards the whole time. Doing the course in the direction they ran it was much rougher but well marked with paint on the rocks and roots. We added a couple more sections extending it a few more miles and ended the day around 1:30. Other than being a tad dusty the riding could not be beat. Terry Clark, a vet NETRA rider whose ridden with the likes of Tommy Norton and Kevin Heinze, showed up on a sweet YZ 250 all spanked out for the woods. He still had half a tank of gas and from his parting comment sounded as though he wasn't stopping until it was all gone. #680
